Im back with the series for the Clean Swaps. If you have visited my blog before then you know I am on a journey to living a clean, sustainable, non toxic life. I am in no way perfect but If I can make small changes over times then I want to do that. I have been doing this for the last three years, and have made such improvement when it comes to swapping out old and not clean stuff with safer switches. I always tell everyone who is ever interested that it is not about perfection, it is about progress.
I grew up using plastic bags for almost everything you can think of. Using them for snacks, leftovers, lunch, even non food items. Here are a few facts about all the plastic in the world.
- More than 8 million tons of plastic are dumped into the ocean every year.
- 1 in 3 species of marine mammals have been found entangled in marine litter.
- Over 90% of all seabirds have plastic pieces in their stomach.
There are tons more facts from the website Plastic Oceans.
Instead of using plastic bags I have opted for Lunchskins reusable bags and Bees Wraps. LunchSkins are reusable, washable and kid friendly, and great alternatives to single use plastic. Bees Wraps is made from Beeswax, and they come in many sizes. They usually last around a year for each use. The great thing is once they are done being used in your home they can be composted or a great fire starter. You simply “seal” each with the warmth of your hand.
I hope that you all have been able to find something useful for your home and make the clean swap this time. Thank you for checking out the blog and hopeful that you’ll continue to follow along for the Clean Swaps series.
