It is about time that I started blogging again. I am ready to get back into this routine of sharing about our family & myself and the things I like. I want to share about all the safer choices and help educate those who read this or are just starting to want safer. It has been about two years since I have started to transition to safer products in our home. I started to try and be safer when I was pregnant with my first son about 4 years ago. I was not as aware as I am about the ingredients that we put on our skin and how they can affect us, but I tried to choose better options for him. From diapers, to breastfeeding, to making his baby food, to what I put on him. I used safer detergent but other than that I was not as aware as I am now about the ingredients that we put on our skin can affect us.
Since I found Beautycounter I have not stopped learning and changing the things I use. It is all about progress not perfection. I couldn’t change out my whole house to safer in just one week. So I started slowly with switching out our hair care/body care to Beautycounter. So I then made my way to Molly’s Suds, as it had been recommended by others that I know who use safer products. I also looked it up on the Environmental Working Group, online and it rates an A meaning that it’s one of the top laundry detergents. I use the EWG website for everything that I use now if I don’t know about the product or certain chemicals.
Laundry Detergent is what we wash our clothes with, our skin is our largest organ and we should know what we put on it. This is a great article on what can be in your laundry detergent from Molly’s Suds itself, which you can read HERE. There are several ingredients that you want to avoid. Endocrine Disruptors, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), Fragrance/ Fragrance is a word that is not regulated, it can have up to 3,000 chemicals that make up this smell. Fragrance is a trade secret that is classified under the federal law and that can remain undisclosed and you can see for yourself with an article from the FDA HERE.
You can shop these products here to get some of these products HERE.
So I chose Molly’s Suds for my laundry detergent because it is one of the safer options. I also do not use any softeners for the same reason. The fragrance is really strong for me now as to where I use to use it before. Now I use essential oils for my laundry for the smell good. I have been using Young Living EOs (Essential Oils) with my detergent, in which I typically use the Lavender Oil or Citrus Fresh. I use distilled vinegar as softener and it can also help with smelly clothes or stains. Then in the dryer I throw in the Wool Dryer Balls to help with dry time and I can always add in the essential oils on the ball as well. There are lots of other safer ways to do laundry. The more you learn about the products and the ingredients you use, the more you are to chose safer options. What you don’t Know you don’t Know. You can always search and learn as you go. I can help you if you’re wondering how to search your products or the ingredients in them! I am no expert or doctor. I learn from my peers and doing searching of my own. I want to be able to share the safer options I have and use. To be an advocate for safer beauty with Beautycounter is not just about selling makeup. I am an advocate for safer, what we put onto our bodies is a factor. we shouldn’t have to question wether our products cause cancer, or infertility, allergies, etc.
Thank you all for stopping by the blog and I hope you can take away something from this blog and maybe do some searching of your own as well. I am going to get back into my grove and keep blogging as regular as I can.
